Sugar Cookies

I love cookies but none more than this simple sugar cookie. It is neither soft or hard. I am not sure how to describe the texture so you will have to make up a batch and see for yourself.

The pictures shown are a triple batch of cookies since I am going to be sharing goodies for Christmas.

1 cup shortening
2 Tablespoons margarine or butter, soft
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups flour

Preheat oven to 375F

Cream butter, shortening and sugar together.

Beat in eggs and vanilla.

Add remaining dry ingredients and blend well.

At this point you can add food coloring to the dough but I prefer to just use sprinkles.
Drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.

Flatten lightly with glass dipped in sugar.

Sprinkle with decorations if desired.

Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden brown.

Cool for 2 minutes on sheet then remove to cooling rack. Store in tightly sealed container.
